Mr. Brokeshoulder records the first known sound of an F5 tornado

4412.00KB (4517888 bytes) 1st time ever played on News Brokeshoulder and I were at the YMCA (Disaster Center Xenia Ohio) with the news media covering the event,April 1974. We had both survived those terrible moments before we were in the center of the storm ( F5 tornado) and we were both still a little in shock from everything that had happened ,as many of the disaster victims were at that time in Xenia. I was at work and went beneath the first floor stairs, as the upper floors and bricks caved in around. Brokeshoulder went to his basement with his family. The tape recorder did not record the stillness inside the funnel ,nor the impact of the second wall. Every survivor has a story to tell of that day...the sound of the wind gave little time to prepare. Gil Whitney's warnings on the news and other warnings saved many lives. We had a radio on at work, across from the police station. The police were yelling at everyone to take cover in the center of town as the storm came up Main Street.
We are forever indelibly imprinted by the winds of that day . I was in my twenties, I am 60 now.
